Helpful Dos And Don'ts For When You're Pregnant - everymum Eating right during pregnancy can be confusing. In the next nine months, what you eat, what you drink, how physically active you are and what you consider all have the potential to affect the growth of your child's present and future.
In fact, a growing number of research findings that conditions in the womb (ie, while you are pregnant) have the potential to affect your child's health even decades down the road. For example, one study found that women who drank during pregnancy may increase their child's risk of alcoholism later in life, even with only one drinking party. Another study showed a significant correlation between maternal nutrition during pregnancy and the risk of children being overweight and diabetes and heart disease later in life.

There are two components to "eating right" when you are pregnant. One of them is the kind of food you're eating, and the other is how much weight you gain.
For many women, pregnancy is the first time in their lives when gaining weight is a good thing-but do not go overboard. You do not need to consume more calories than your normal daily intake during your first trimester. After the first 12 weeks, you can consume up to 300 extra calories per day

If you are overweight, try and lose weight before you get pregnant. Women who are overweight have a higher risk of emergency cesarean delivery, gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and miscarriage. There is also a greater risk of childbirth complications.
Now, to what you eat.
First, make your diet rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and lean proteins. Go light on saturated fat (ie, red meat and whole-milk dairy) and aim for the least processed foods as possible. Keeping this eating regimen during pregnancy
