During her second pregnancy, I experienced some reluctance extreme diet. I remember overwhelmed in concert by the faint smell of fried onion rings. Just by looking at raw poultry made me vomit. Even mention anything "raw" is enough to make my stomach turn. So, when I first heard about the benefits of a raw diet during pregnancy, I was a little skeptical.
I must make it clear from the start I did not follow a raw diet. I am still learning about the benefits of a raw diet and try to slowly increase my intake of raw foods. Raw diet during pregnancy is very exciting for me for several reasons. First, I like to learn about everything to do with the health of women during the prenatal period. Secondly, I plan to have more children in the future and I also consider myself raw.
The third reason appears about halfway through my pregnancy, when my husband and I took a childbirth preparation classes. One task is to keep track of your daily diet and report at the next meeting. One of the ladies in my class has a very impressive diet journal. He eats a lot of food daily, and his list is the healthiest in the group. He has all the essential nutrients in the diet, and her calorie intake is within the recommended range. Interestingly, he is the only raw vegan in the group.
In my experience, vegans and vegetarians get a lot of flack when it comes to pregnancy. You often read that the vegan or vegetarian diet is not adequate for the growing baby, and that women who fall into these camps must change their way during the prenatal period. Since the raw diet often also vegan or vegetarian, these criticisms seem to be also true for raw pregnancy diet.
While I agree the pregnancy is an important and critical period, I agree that a raw diet is always necessarily inadequate during pregnancy. Just like any other diet, the raw food diet has advantages and disadvantages that pregnant women should understand in order to achieve optimal health during and after their pregnancy.

Does a woman following a diet of raw for philosophical reasons or diet he should be able to continue to do so throughout her pregnancy with proper planning and calorie intake. In my experience, pregnant women who follow a raw food diet also tend to be very knowledgeable about the needs of their bodies and how to get them. And if your raw mamas out there find themselves craving grilled sweet potato or steamed vegetables during your pregnancy, I say go for it! Pregnancy is the prime time for key nutrients to your own intuition. If your body is nagging you to eat something healthy that you normally do not eat, it just might be an indicator that you need.
