As if not to challenge the food is reasonably-avoiding unsafe, eat enough but not too much and hit all your nutritional requirements for many pregnant women, eating also carries on uncomfortable burning sensation in the chest or throat: heartburn.
hormonal changes in pregnancy causes the valve between the esophagus and stomach to relax, allowing acid to escape into your throat, explained Amanda Selk, an OB / GYN at Women's College Hospital in Toronto. "In addition, as the uterus grows, there is more pressure on your stomach, which can cause stomach acid to come back," he said.
Pregnant women are also prone to heartburn because their digestive system has slowed down, which means things that stick around in the stomach longer, explains Heather Martin, an Edmonton-based midwife. "It slows the movement means food, on top of heartburn, and indigestion." And unfortunately, as the uterus continues to grow and press against the stomach, this blow can intensify.
The best course of action is to try to prevent heartburn from occurring in the first place. So, eat small meals and avoid fatty foods, carbonated drinks, caffeine, acidic foods (like tomatoes) and spicy food. "Will this help reduce the amount of acid in your stomach," said Selk. Citrus fruits such as oranges can also bring in burns, but they offer a valuable folic acid, so it is not cut them out entirely, try a low acid orange juice and drinking once you had cereal or toast for help absorb stomach acid. And at dinner, drinks-a skip may decrease the effectiveness of gastric juice, said Martin. In addition to adjusting what you eat, Martin suggests taking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar diluted in a cup of water once a day to try to improve the effectiveness of your gastric juices. And keep in mind that after a meal can make heartburn worse; Martin advised not to eat after 7:00, because it will make sleeping uncomfortable. .related-article-block {display: inline-block; width: 300px; padding: .5rem; margin-left: .5rem; float: right; border: 1px solid # ccc} @media (max-width: 525px) {.related-article-block {float: none; display: block; width: 280px; margin: 0 auto 2rem}}
When you experience heartburn, a handful of raw almonds can help you feel better, as can ginger or ginger tea. Also, try snacking on pineapple, which can act as a digestive enzyme. After dinner, we know it's tempting to lie on the couch and watching Netflix, but try going for a walk to ease heartburn. In the case of drugs, it is considered safe to take Tums, Gaviscon or ranitidine (Zantac), but it's a good idea to talk to your doctor before taking any medication.
While heartburn is not fun, it is generally not a serious problem. However, pain in the abdomen or shoulder, which is sometimes mistaken for heartburn, can become a complication of pregnancy in which women develop high blood pressure and signs of damage to the liver or kidneys, usually after 20 weeks. "If you suddenly heartburn, do not go, the accompanying pain in the abdomen and up the back, and really intense to severe pain, contact your doctor or go to hospital for an emergency assessment," said Martin.
