IVF diet: Foods to eat & Foods to avoid during treatmentIn-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a form of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) in which the man's sperm and the female egg mixed in a laboratory dish or a single sperm is injected into an egg (ICSI) to encourage fertilization. Today, IVF is a common form of fertility treatment used to treat many causes of infertility.
fertility drug taken to mature several eggs usually for 7-10 days. Some eggs are stimulated because not every egg will fertilize or develop after fertilization in a laboratory dish. During this step, the woman will have a series of vaginal ultrasound and blood work to monitor the development of ovarian follicles (egg sacs) and check hormone levels. When follicles ready, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), luteinizing hormone (LH) is given, which will cause the maturation of the egg.
The eggs are taken usually 35-37 hours after the final injection with a trans-vaginal ultrasound aspiration. the doctor inserts a needle attached to a vaginal ultrasound probe to retrieve the eggs from the follicles. The number of eggs retrieved varies based on several factors, including, but not limited to the woman's age.
ICSI (injecting sperm into the egg) is often recommended when it reaches the fertilization may be difficult, there are issues of male-factor infertility or when planning a Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing (PGS) or Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD ).
The fertilized egg splits and becomes 2 to 4 embryo cells 2 days after egg retrieval. Embryo to develop normally 5 days after fertilization is called a blastocyst. When planning the PGD / PGS, embryo biopsy performed on day 5 or day 6 embryos - blastocysts
In general 5 days after fertilization, the embryo is placed into the uterus of a woman .. No anesthesia is required for the procedure this. The number of embryos transferred depends on the circumstances of each patient, the quality of the embryo, the age of the patient, or the results of previous IVF. the transfer is done by placing a flexible catheter through the cervix and into the uterus. Ultrasound guidance is used to assist physicians with the placement of the embryo. Patients can use the remaining embryos for future cycles with cryopreservation. Cryopreservation make future cycles much simpler and cheaper as a woman does not need to go through the process of ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval again.
