When I found out I was pregnant again, I felt a mixture of anxiety and excitement, and I was a little scared. Before going vegan I have been a vegetarian for over twenty years, and I have been through a very complicated pregnancy during that time. Mind starting my second pregnancy and my first since becoming vegan cause mixed emotions.
I'm sure most people get a "good, what you eat!?" question when you reveal that you are a vegetarian, but when someone invention out you're vegan and pregnant - well, it turns out people greeted the news that the much longer list of questions ...
"Is it safe for your baby ? "
'Is not it selfish to put that on the unborn child you!?'
'Well, will you bring the baby to be vegan?'
the list goes on and on. With friends, family, and doctors questioned the choice of your food, even the most committed vegan and knowledgeable may have their doubts if they are pregnant. I was told by my doctor that I was "very stupid", but with the exception of iron deficiency is very little - which does not mean the problem is exclusively vegan - I'm very healthy, so I chose to ignore his comments. I prescribed Iron tablets, but have the fear of drugs and tablets, I chose to use Spatone to keep my iron levels stable.
When I put the doubts of the people around me out of my mind and looked at the situation clearly, I realized it was actually very easy to follow a vegan diet throughout pregnancy. In fact, given that I stopped eating them anyway, I do not have to consider changing my diet to avoid that list of things that pregnant women were instructed to avoid - such as soft cheeses, pates, and eggs under cooked. I think: "if a healthy diet for me, surely it would be healthy for people a little too"
I suffer from the dreaded morning sickness for almost the entire first trimester twelve weeks I ,. and this can make it difficult for any pregnant women to always eat healthy. At that stage, it was a case of eat what I can stomach; if it smelt good and it was vegan, I eat it!
I do not have a sweet tooth as a rule, but I crave chocolate cake while I was expecting. , Most of my weekends at home I was involved a lot of cake, and the best thing about vegan cake is you can lick the spoon with no concerns about raw eggs
All the chocolate cake and vegan food beautifully done; I went into labor at forty-two weeks and gave birth to a baby boy healthy 10.5lb. I was a long labor, but naturally, and after thirty-six hours I welcome the newest little vegan in my family.
leafy greens, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole fruits, nuts, and seeds form the basis of a very healthy diet for pregnant women and their babies. Vitamin B12 is important, and vegans have a more limited number of foods from which to get their B12 intake. However, there are many sources of vegetable fortified with vitamins are easily included in the diet. See our for more info and a list of vegan foods rich in B12. other B vitamins, plus vitamin E and D are also important, and all these are easily available in a vegan diet.
Contrary to popular belief, calcium is abundant in plant-based diet and come in a form that is really easy for the human body to process and digest. Vegans can get a lot of calcium, so that pregnancy presents no problem here. Milk may be high in calcium, but casein - a protein in cow's milk - it is difficult for the human body to successfully assimilate into the actual calcium, so it's better to get our calcium from plant sources
Folic Acid is. important for both conception and early pregnancy - so if you're planning to have a baby, tried and including the right amount in your diet (about 800 micrograms per day). the same cans vegan and non-vegan benefit from prenatal vitamins to help get all the folic acid needed
note :. I am not a doctor or nutritionist, only vegan parents who try their best to eat a healthy vegan diet for me and my baby - succumbed to the desire normal, because every pregnant women. Below is a list of some meal ideas that I hope will help guide anyone going through the same experience.
