The ten foods you should never eat while you're pregnant | Daily ...Hola! My husband and I visited Spain (Seville, Granada, and Madrid) in April. What foods pregnant women are advised to avoid any?
The doctor advised me to avoid cured meats, unpasteurized cheeses and raw seafood. Cured meats and raw seafood that is easy to identify. Do I have to avoid all the cheese while in Spain or some of it pasteurized? Is there an easy way for me to inquire whether the cheese is pasteurized or if the dishes have cheese? Are there any other foods that pregnant women in Spain to avoid?
Also, a question of logistics. I read that tapas sometimes come for free when you order wine or drinks. My husband would drink (jealous!) But I have to stick to water, tea, or soft drinks. Will I still be served tapas? Can I order separately and pay for them?
Women here have to avoid jamón, bordering on torture. I do not remember my wife avoid cheese, I assume most of them are made from pasteurized milk (fresh milk rarely). You can only ask if a dish containing cheese with the phrase * lleva queso? *, But if you ask about pasteurized you will probably get a blank stare.
About tapas, you will also get them if you order drinks the same price. You can also buy it separately, yes
Jamon looks great, I'm going to drool while my husband enjoyed it.)
I do not drink but my partner does not but we always bring tapas for 2
you should ask if the cheese is pasteurized. 99% of the cheese you will be given as Tapa will. On the rare occasion that they grab things are good, it is very unlikely that it will be contaminated with any bacteria because raw milk cheeses we almost all well healed (which kills nearly all the vines, that's why it was invented in the first place).
But to be sure, just ask: está pasteurizado? (Pas tea ree tha oo doh)
Thanks, this is very helpful and put my mind at ease.
I do not know whether you can easily identify the cheese pasteurized, but you can 't go wrong if you ask, no problem asking "¿Tiene queso este plato?' (Does go this dish with cheese? ) or 'Podría ponerme ¿pero este plato queso sin?' (may I order this dish without cheese?).
On the question of tapas, in Andalucía tapas served with drinks (apart from it being an aperitif or not), even though they could not possibly bring you one if you order a glass of water or a bottle of water. In Madrid it is usual to ask for them separately, in Andalucía most of the time you can not choose them, so remember to say that you do not want tapas with cured meat, cheese or raw seafood (because the ingredients for about 90% of tapas , you're better off just giving your husband your tapa, in Andalucía they are included in the price of drinks, [do not worry, it will not be more expensive because of tapa]).
Thanks for the information!
I just wanted to say no free tapas served everywhere in Andalucía, I think this is more frequent in Granada. They may provide some olives or Altramuces.
You especially want to avoid soft / fresh cheese. With Manchego cheese stick or other hard, do not eat "skin" and you'll be fine.
