I am 22 weeks pg and only returned to work after the food poisoning bug is really nasty (vomiting and diarrhea for 18 hours solid - or not so crowded !!) m / w did not seem too concerned as long as I can finally start to keep fluids down. A week later, and I go back to eating normally again, if a little cautious ... I'm just really worried when I was bleeding pretty bad with diarrhea (sorry for graphics) and I panicked and thought it was a baby - a terrible moment. Once again, m / w, and the hospital said it is common in food poisoning and it might be a small tear in my stomach or stomach lining, which is caused by bacteria. Does anyone know if this will affect the baby ?? If anything, the baby has started kicking even more regularly now!
Hi I had a stomach bug really awful when I was about 16 weeks pregnant (I'm now almost 38 weeks) and naturally panic. It did not think it was food poisoning as my sister also had the same thing and I think I took it from him. I'm still paranoid because I have Crohns disease and fear it could be lit it but fortunately it was not. Anyway I was really very sick and leave for a week and had a stomach ache really bad and diarrhea like you. I went to the hospital and they checked the baby's heartbeat and said that everything was fine. I asked them about the baby potentially affected and they said that as the baby is protected by the amniotic fluid is sterile so there is no risk of this. They also said that a few days do not eat will not harm the baby and showed that women in third world countries sometimes do not eat for days and the baby is fine! Hope this convince you a bit but if you are still worried ask your midwife but if your baby is still very active all may well xx
Thanks! That's reassuring. It's just hard to believe that the baby is ok while you become so very ill but I guess they're pretty tough! : -)
I know, I'm sure I was having a miscarriage because the pain was so bad !! Everything looked 10 times more alarming when you preggars being. Do glad I have not got long left to go because I can not stand the anxiety any longer ...
I also have 48 hours of vomiting food poisoning bug when I was about 28 weeks pregnant, and no long-term problems. Your baby is quite difficult there in connection with diarrhea and vomiting bug. Hope that helps a little
Hello, My husband and I went for a romantic weekend our last before the baby arrived (my 31 weeks) and I got food poisoning and spent the entire night in the bathroom! I'm sick contiuously for about 8 hours with diorrea (sorry, can not spell!). In the end, the hospital called an ambulance and I was put on a drip. They check the baby's heartbeat and said he was fine and should not pose a problem - it was just dehydration was the only concern, but once they got some fluids into me it was fine. He had kicked so much since, so I hope he is ok but it was a terrible experience. I hope you feel better and just take it easy!
Hi babyloves- remember your baby take any nutrients etc from your body before you get so that even if you are sick, etc., the baby is still getting some nutirents etc whatever you have on your body. They are selfish like that !! If MW you do not care then I would not be good. Maybe if you've never taken any, take some prenatal vitamins (such as pregnacare or something) just give it a boost. Hope you feel better now! X
