salmonella outbreak in Melbourne Langham Hotel last month has been blamed for the raw egg mayonnaise served in a chicken sandwich.
raw egg mayonnaise caused an outbreak of salmonella after high tea in Melbourne luxury hotels.
The mayonnaise on the chicken sandwich that caused salmonella poisoning in at least 40 people who ate at The Langham Hotel on July 11 and 12, acting chief health officer Michael Ackland said Victoria.
Sixteen people were hospitalized, including a pregnant woman who was forced to give her baby five weeks early.
"Through the investigation we found that mayonnaise contains the same strain of salmonella found in confirmed cases," Professor Ackland sai d.
All in all, 90 people were reported ill, but it was only possible to confirm the strain in 40 cases.
The Langham Melbourne Director Ben Sington said the hotel eggs are sourced from a certified supplier and stored in accordance with the guidelines.
"However, as a precautionary measure while the investigation is ongoing, the hotel took immediate steps ... to just use pasteurized eggs in all the cooking process except for hard boiled eggs and made to order at breakfast, and stop making mayonnaise own hotel, "he said.
Amber Elbouch, who spent eight days in hospital and is still taking medicine, said he had not heard from since falling ill.
"I think they have a duty of care and responsibility to at least contact us and see if we were okay and see if there was anything they could do," he said 3AW on Tuesday.
"It would be nice to receive a phone call."
